Recognition and professional access procedures for the profession of "food inspector" regulated by federal and state law

Determination of the fulfilment of the requirements for the activity as a food inspector by decision.
This includes deciding on any compensatory measures that may be necessary.
- informal, written application by applicants for recognition of the training acquired abroad, accompanied by the necessary documents,
- Decision on recognition of proven training and activities by MJV,
- if necessary, request for comments from other bodies by MJV,
- Determination of compliance with the requirements for the activity as a food inspector by decision by MJV,
- where deficits are identified, determination of the extent and duration of the compensatory measures necessary to acquire the necessary scientific, food law and administrative knowledge and skills that have not been imparted in previous training.
The competent authority is the highest state authority responsible for food monitoring, the Ministry of the Environment, Energy, Food and Forestry.
Prerequisite for the activity as a "food inspector" is
- a vocational qualification with an additional further training examination on the basis of the Vocational Training Act or the Crafts Code or as a technician with a state final examination in a food profession
and
- a course completed with a passed examination, lasting at least 24 months, with activity-related theoretical instruction at a suitable institution of at least six months and practical training including internships in the examination and evaluation of food, food additives, cosmetic products and consumer goods within the meaning of the Food and Feed Code as well as tobacco products within the meaning of the Provisional Tobacco Law entrusted offices
as well as
- Proof of fitness for work by means of a medical certificate,
- proof that no criminal offences, serious professional misconduct or other circumstances calling into question the suitability of the applicant are known,
- Proof of possession of a category B driving licence.
The following documents must be submitted with the application:
- officially certified photocopy of the original vocational qualification,
- officially certified photocopy of a passed training,
- officially certified photocopy of an apprenticeship equivalent to the successful completion of a course to become a recognised food inspector.

- Curriculum vitae with tabular presentation of the professional career,
- Proof of fitness for work by means of a medical certificate,
- proof that no criminal offences, serious professional misconduct or other circumstances calling into question the suitability of the applicant are known,
- a statement as to whether and to which body an application for a declaration of equivalence has already been submitted or whether it is an initial application,
- proof of possession of a category B driving licence,
- a marriage certificate / marriage certificate in a simple copy, if a different name (birth name) is stated in the training documents than stated at the time of application.
Foreign-language documents must also be attached in an officially certified translation. The translation must have been carried out by a publicly appointed and generally sworn translator in Germany.
A fee in accordance with the Special Schedule of Fees will be charged for the processing of the application, depending on the time required; Any costs incurred for expert opinions by other bodies will be charged additionally.
There are no predetermined deadlines.
Once the documents have been submitted in full, the procedure is expected to take four months. The processing time also depends on the involvement of other bodies.
