Recognition of Bundeswehr service periods as experience in aircraft maintenance

As aircraft technical personnel of the German Armed Forces or former members of the German Armed Forces, you can have all or part of the experience required for the maintenance of civil aircraft recognized by the Federal Aviation Office (LBA) under certain conditions.

The degree of equivalence of maintenance on military aircraft and aviation equipment compared to that on civil aircraft determines the level of recognition.

Certain activities are assigned to each aircraft on the basis of the relevant training and activity numbers (ATN) or the identification number in the Bundeswehr's activity information procedure (TIV-ID).

If you already have a DEMAR 66 license, this can also be used as proof of experience for certain categories.

The LBA is responsible for recognizing periods of service in the Bundeswehr.

You can submit the application for recognition of military service online via the federal portal.

You must apply to the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (LBA) for the crediting of periods of military service. Please proceed as follows:

Online application:

Go to the federal portal verwaltung.bund.de and complete the online application.
You can upload your documents directly.
Submit the application online.
The Federal Office of Civil Aviation will check your application.
You will receive a decision and, if necessary, further documents.

Application by post or fax:

Call up the relevant form on the LBA website.
Complete the form and compile the required documents.
The next steps are the same as for the online application.
Send all documents to the LBA.
You will receive a decision and, if applicable, further result documents.

The following can apply for crediting of periods of military service

natural persons (from Germany, EU state, third country) or
Organizations in representation

Further requirements:

You are of legal age, i.e. capable of acting, fully legally competent and criminally liable.

You are deployed as technical aircraft personnel in the Bundeswehr or are a former member of the Bundeswehr with relevant service experience.

Application for crediting periods of service in the German Armed Forces as practical work to obtain a license under Part-66
Identity card or passport
Proof of practical aviation experience in the Bundeswehr
Proof of relevant ATN, ATB, TIV-ID
in case of representation:
- Proof of authorization to represent (power of attorney)
for an address abroad:
- Declaration on the appointment of an authorized recipient
