Apply for on-the-job training (OJT) in individual cases

Source: BUS Rheinland-Pfalz

In addition to the theoretical and practical type training course, on-the-job training (OJT) represents a further step towards obtaining the first aircraft type rating in a category.

While trainees are taught basic aircraft type knowledge in the theoretical and practical parts of the type training course, this knowledge is put into practice and deepened in a real maintenance environment during the OJT.

Trainees receive practical guidance and support from supervisors in order to gain relevant experience as prospective certifying staff.

Trainees need to have successfully completed an aircraft type training course in order to be granted initial type certification. In addition, they must provide evidence of having completed on-the-job training (OJT) in an approved maintenance organization.

If you do not have the opportunity to facilitate an approved OJT at your training center, you can apply for an OJT on a case-by-case basis at the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (LBA).

You have the following options:

  • You apply for an OJT on a case-by-case basis for the first time.
  • You apply for a follow-up application for an OJT.
  • You apply for a change to an already approved OJT.
  • You register an assessment date.

You also have the option of applying for an OJT approval for several trainees at the same time. Note that an approval must be submitted to the LBA before the OJT begins.

First-time application:

To apply for an OJT for the first time, you must provide:

  • Trainee data,
  • Data on the training company,
  • details of the planned OJT,
  • data on planned supervisors and assessors.

Follow-up application:

A follow-up application is an application for approval of a new OJT based on an already approved OJT.

In the case of a follow-up application, you must indicate in which points the new OJT differs from the previously conducted OJT. If the differences are too great, a completely new application may be necessary.

Change request:

In the case of an amendment application, you must indicate what has changed from the originally approved OJT.

Report assessment date:

If you wish to report an assessment date, you must indicate the appropriate location and time.
