Applying for special use of public space within a locality
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzPublic roads, paths or squares are dedicated to public use. This means that these areas are accessible to you and any other person and can be used by the general public without the need for special permits or restrictions.
If you intend to do something that goes beyond public use, you may need a permit for this special use, known as a special use permit. You must apply for the special use permit from the responsible authority.
The requirements for special use within a locality may be different from the requirements for special use outside a locality.
For this reason, the requirements regarding parking, traffic regulation, the operation of street cafés and road construction work, for example, are generally more extensive than the requirements for special use outside a locality.
The requirements may vary depending on the location. The responsible authority can inform you accordingly upon request.
Note: If you require a permit for excessive road use in accordance with the Road Traffic Act, the special use permit is included in this. You then no longer need to apply for a separate permit for special use.
