Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzThe so-called food banks are non-profit aid organizations that collect still usable food or non-food items for daily needs and distribute them to those in need free of charge or alternatively for a small fee. The goods come from the trade and have been sorted out for a variety of reasons, for example due to overproduction, damaged packaging or the imminent best-before date. In the regular economic cycle, these products would be destroyed unused. In Germany, food banks are organized in the association "Tafel Deutschland e.V." and are usually active at the municipal level. On the homepage of the aid organization you will find further information and also the nearest board in your area.
