Apply for unemployment benefit for former temporary soldiers
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzUnemployment benefit for former soldiers is intended to provide you with financial and social security if you become unemployed. As a temporary soldier, you are not subject to compulsory insurance for employment promotion during your period of service and are therefore not entitled to unemployment benefit during this time. Instead, you can apply for unemployment benefit. You are entitled to unemployment benefit if your employment contract covers at least 2 years of service.
You will not receive unemployment benefit during periods in which you are entitled to unemployment benefit. As soon as you apply for unemployment benefit, your entitlement to unemployment benefit is automatically checked.
Duration of unemployment benefit
How long you are entitled to unemployment benefit depends on the length of service in the last 5 years before you became unemployed and the age you were when you became entitled.
You are entitled to 180 days of unemployment benefit if you have served as a temporary soldier for at least 2 years within the last 30 months. Voluntary military service prior to service as a temporary soldier is also taken into account.
You will only receive unemployment benefit after the period for which you receive transitional allowances. In addition, your period of entitlement is reduced by the days for which you receive transitional allowances.
Temporary soldiers with a period of service of 4 years or more receive transitional allowances for at least 12 months. As a rule, you are therefore not entitled to unemployment benefit.
Amount of unemployment benefit
The amount of your unemployment benefit depends on your pay in the last 12 months.
A flat-rate net salary is calculated from your gross pay. The amount of unemployment benefit for unemployed persons with a child is 67 percent, for other unemployed persons 60 percent of this flat-rate net salary.
While you are receiving unemployment benefit, you are generally covered by statutory health, nursing care and pension insurance. The contributions are paid by the Federal Employment Agency. If you were last exempt from compulsory pension insurance or health and long-term care insurance, the BA can usually pay part of the contributions for private provision.
You are insured against accidents if you receive a special request to visit the Employment Agency or another office while receiving benefits.
