Consumer Information Act
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzWith the Consumer Information Act (VIG) of 1 May 2008, the food inspection authorities of the federal states are generally obliged to provide you with information. This means that with a written application to the competent authority, you can obtain existing information about food, feed, consumer goods, cosmetics or wine.
Your right to receive information for everyone includes data about:
- breaches of food and feed law;
- hazards/risks posed by products to consumers; (e.B.: "How often were plan or suspected samples of meat and meat products objected to as hazardous to health during official controls in the previous year?");
- Labelling, origin, quality, use, manufacture and treatment of products (e.B: "Were pesticide residues found in peppers in a supermarket in the 4th quarter of the previous year?");
- starting materials and the processes used in the production of the starting materials; (e.B.: "What ingredients does a particular food consist of?");
- Monitoring measures, evaluation of these activities, statistics on violations (e.B. hygienic complaints in a food establishment).
