Equalization of burdens for displaced persons, ethnic German repatriates and resettlers

An application is no longer possible.

• You must have been resident in the Federal Republic of Germany on 01.01.1993.
• You must have German nationality or German ethnicity.
• You must have suffered financial loss or lost your livelihood as a result of the war.
• You must have submitted an application by 31.12.1995 (for KSR by 31.12.1999).

You had to prove the financial loss or the loss of your professional existence by means of documents or credible witness statements.

• Applications for equalization of burdens: expired on 31.12.1995
• Application deadline for the granting of war damage pensions: expired on 31.12.1999

• Lastenausgleichsgesetz (LAG)

• If your losses compensated in the equalization of burdens are fully or partially compensated after 31.12.1989 (restitution of assets, surrender of proceeds of sale, restoration of full power of disposal and compensation under the Compensation Act, the Compensation Benefits Act or the Nazi Persecutee Compensation Act), you must reimburse the excess equalization benefits granted.
• The following are generally liable for repayment:
  • the recipients of compensation benefits,
  • their heirs or other heirs
  • and, in the case of assets subject to succession, the subsequent heirs, insofar as they or their legal successors have received the compensation payment (universal successors).
• Reclaiming: the basic amount of the principal compensation paid in excess due to loss adjustment plus the interest surcharge paid
