Women's shelters receive refuge

Women's shelters are run by associations or by church sponsors or independent welfare agencies. They are financially supported by public grants.

Information and addresses of women's shelters can be found on the website Conference of Women's Shelters. For security reasons, the addresses of the women's shelters are not published in public directories. Men are generally not allowed to enter. The employees are subject to confidentiality.

Contact persons are also the equal opportunities and women's representatives of the municipalities.

Important things that are helpful when escaping to a women's shelter:

• ID cards, passports, health insurance cards of yourself and your children,
• birth and marriage certificates,
• Account documents, credit cards, money,
• Rental agreement, employment contract, notices from the employment and social welfare office, pension insurance,
• custody decisions,
• necessary medication, medical certificates,
• Children's clothing, toiletries, school supplies and toys, personal letters or records.

A financial contribution must be paid for the stay in the women's shelter. If the women receive benefits from the job centre or social welfare office, the costs for accommodation in the women's shelter are covered by the relevant institutions.
