Registration of a burial at sea
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzBurial at sea is the burial of the ashes of the deceased in the sea. Only urns are buried in the open sea. Burial at sea is therefore only possible if the deceased has been cremated beforehand. In Germany, all burials at sea take place in the coastal seas of the North Sea and Baltic Sea. In the Rhineland-Palatinate Burial Act, burial at sea is not recognized as a separate type of burial.
Burial at sea in surface waters within the meaning of the Water Resources Act is not permitted.
