Applying for a permit for national insemination centres and national embryo collection teams

Source: BUS Rheinland-Pfalz

If you want to operate a national insemination station or embryo collection unit for cattle, pigs, sheep, goats or equidae, you need a permit in accordance with the Animal Breeding Act.

The permit is issued if

  • a veterinarian is responsible for the veterinary and technical management of the facility or the performance of the veterinary and technical tasks is guaranteed by a veterinarian who is contractually bound to the insemination station,
  • the personnel required for proper operation are available,
  • the facilities required for the collection, processing, storage and delivery of oocytes and embryos are available at an embryo collection team,
  • the facilities required for the collection, treatment, storage and delivery of semen or embryos are available at an insemination station, and
  • the male breeding animals are available at an insemination station.

The permit relates to the respective facility with its operating units and to the respective animal species. It is generally granted for 10 years. It can then be reissued.

Operators of insemination stations or embryo collection units require a permit under animal breeding law to operate. The licence relates to the respective insemination centre with its operating parts as well as to the material area of activity.
