Supplementary schools are independent schools that do not serve as a substitute for public schools because comparable schools do not exist in the state school system. They offer types of school and teaching content that the state school system does not know at all or does not know in the respective form. In principle, pupils cannot fulfil compulsory schooling by attending a supplementary school.
