Apply for approval for egg packing station
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzEgg packing centers are companies that sort, mark, pack or repack eggs according to quality and weight classes. Only packing centers may grade eggs according to quality and weight class.
You can only operate an egg packing center if the competent authority has approved the egg packing center under market law upon your application and you have received a packing center code.
To be approved as a packing center, your business must have suitable premises and technical facilities for sorting eggs by quality and weight class.
Approval is not required if you are packing eggs
- from the production site,
- at the doorstep or
- at a public market
directly to end consumers and not according to quality and weight classes.
You require approval as a packing station if you are a direct-marketing business that
- market the eggs via a trading partner, i.e. a retailer, bakery, kiosk or other, or
- want to offer the eggs sorted by size and quality class or
- have a sales radius of more than 100 kilometers.
You must sort, mark and, if necessary, pack the eggs within 10 days of laying.
You may only sell graded and, if applicable, packaged grade A eggs with a printed producer code.
The packaging must be
- clean,
- shockproof,
- dry and
- dry and undamaged.
The packaging material must protect the eggs from foreign odors and possible quality deterioration.
Once the packing station has been approved, all marketing channels are open to you. You must keep the following lists:
- Purchasing list: Number of eggs purchased per producer
- Grading list: Number of eggs per category per day
- Sales list: Number of eggs sold with place and date of sale
You must keep the lists for 12 months.
