National emblem of the country
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzThe national coat of arms is in the form of a heraldic round shield. This is divided by an ascending curved point and shows a red continuous cross in a silver field on the right, a silver six-spoked wheel in a red field on the left and a red-crowned, red-armed golden lion in the ascending black point. The coat of arms is surmounted by a golden folk crown (vine leaves).
With the Trier cross, the Mainz wheel and the Palatinate lion, it represents the three Rhenish electorates, the historically most important territories in the area of today's federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Their outstanding constitutional status made them the most influential and important functionaries of the Old Empire after the German Emperor.
