Report damage to local state and district roads and their paths
Source: Serviceportal Rheinland-PfalzDamaged roads and paths can have serious consequences for all road users. Damaged areas include frost heave, potholes, major longitudinal and transverse unevenness, open joints and cracks as well as poor drainage on the road surface. By reporting these you are actively contributing to road safety.
The responsibility for road construction on a local thoroughfare depends on the type of road and the size of the municipality. The population boundary between large and small municipalities is regulated differently depending on the federal state.
As a rule, the following applies: For smaller municipalities, the responsibility for the local thoroughfare
- of a state road (in Bavaria and Saxony: state road) lies with the federal state.
- of a district road lies with the district or independent city.
For larger municipalities, the local authority is responsible for the through-route of state roads or state and district roads.
Responsibility for footpaths on through roads generally lies with the municipality. This is regulated differently for cycle paths.
After your report, the responsible authority will check whether the danger spot needs to be secured and repaired.
