Applying for compensation for livestock killed by wolf or lynx
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzLynx and wolves are strictly protected throughout Europe. The current natural recolonization of Rhineland-Palatinate by wolves is being supported by the state government with funding measures. The same applies to the lynx - here the recolonization is actively supported by a reintroduction project in the Palatinate Forest.
Both species live almost exclusively on wild animals such as deer and wild boar. However, it cannot be ruled out that they may also prey on farm animals such as sheep or goats on pasture or fallow deer in enclosures, especially if these are not adequately protected by fences or livestock guarding dogs.
If you are affected by this, you can apply for compensation under certain conditions.
