Applying for, extending or renewing a rating or instructor rating for a pilot's license

You can apply for the issue, extension or renewal of a pilot's license online:

• Go to the federal portal verwaltung.bund.de and complete the online application.
• You can upload your documents directly and apply for the authorizations.
• Submit the application online.
• The LBA will check your application
• You will receive a decision, further result documents and a fee notice.
• After you have paid the fees, you can retrieve the decision online and receive the license by post

• You are
  • a natural person from Germany, an EU country or a third country
  • a legal entity based in Germany or represented by natural persons from Germany, an EU country or a third country.
• You have passed all the required theoretical and practical examinations.

if no ICAO authorization is available:

• Copy of the current license (front and back)
• Copy of your identity card or current registration certificate
• Proof of fulfillment of the relevant requirements (e.g. training certificate, practical examination, proficiency check, proof of flight experience)
• Copies of foreign permits, licenses and recognitions

if no ICAO authorization exists and if a special instructor rating exists:

• Documents for the special instructor rating with justification

for a substitution:

• Proof of authorization to represent
• Completed declaration form for criminal offenses

for a declaration of assumption of costs to the authorized person:

• Proof of declaration of assumption of costs

for an ICAO third country authorization:

• Copy of your identity card
• License confirmation from third country ("Verification")
• Proof of a theoretical examination passed in accordance with EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) regulations
• Proof of a practical examination passed in accordance with EASA regulations
• Proof of fulfillment of the relevant requirements (e.g. proof of training, practical examination, proficiency test, proof of flight experience)
• Proof of flight experience
• Copy of foreign permits, licenses and recognitions
• Confirmation from third country authority regarding active license exercise
