Apply for a permit change for the direct discharge of precipitation water into bodies of water

You can apply to your local water authority for an amendment to the permit for the direct discharge of precipitation water. The general procedure is as follows:

• Send your application for a permit change with the required documents to the responsible water authority.
• This
  • checks that your application and documents are complete and contacts you if any information or documents are missing,
  • examines your application from a water management and water law perspective and involves other authorities if necessary.
• You will receive
  • a notice of amendment for the permit or
  • a notice of rejection
• You will also receive a fee notice.
• You pay the fee.

Please contact the responsible Structural and Approval Directorate North or South.

• The responsible authority has a permit for the project under water law.
• The harmfulness of the precipitation water is kept as low as possible according to the state of the art.
• The discharge is compatible with the requirements for water characteristics and other legal requirements.
• If necessary, systems or other facilities are installed and operated in order to comply with these requirements.

• Application
• Calculations on the load and need for treatment of the rainwater
• Hydrogeological report (for infiltration)
• Description, illustration, dimensioning of the infiltration system
• Proof that infiltration is not possible (for discharge into surface waters)
• Details, illustration and mathematical proof of the required rainwater retention facility
• General plan
• Site plan
• Extract from the cadastral map
• Drawing of the structure or facility
• Accompanying nature conservation planning, including entry in the compensation area register for new facilities
• Technical contribution to the Water Framework Directive

• Certificate of competence

The fees stated apply to new permits.

There is no statutory deadline. Apply for the permit change well in advance of the planned change to the discharge.

The processing time depends in particular on the quality and scope of your application and the documents.
