Aircraft noise of military
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzIn Rhineland-Palatinate – as in other federal states – some parts of the country are polluted by military aircraft noise. The noise pollution has its origin in arrivals and departures as well as training flights in the vicinity of the three (until 1990 eight) military airfields in Ramstein, Spangdahlem and Büchel.
In addition, the air training rooms of the TRA (Temporary Reserved Airspace) "Lauter" and the antenna system "POLYGONE" are located above the southwestern Rhineland-Palatinate.dem and Saarland areas. The practice room of the TRA ranges from approx. 11,000 m to 3,000 m altitude above ground. In addition, low-altitude flights occur below this altitude and within certain corridors. Under certain circumstances, these can reach up to 300 m above ground, sometimes even below. The Federal Government has set operating hours for the use of the air training rooms. Outside these hours and when not used for military purposes, the airspace is also available for civil air traffic.
According to the Basic Law, military flight operations are part of the exclusive remit of the Confederation. The state does not have its own competence law framework here. Nevertheless, the Federal Ministry of Defence has a joint working group with the states of Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland, in which the scope of the training operation and the resulting noise pollution are discussed.
