Private laboratories for the quality testing of seeds apply for approval

The activity of the laboratory is systematically monitored by the Recognition Body and verifies at least 5 out of a hundred seed lots itself. In the event of repeated inadequate implementation, the recognition body must revoke the approval.

The monitoring of the examination and procedural processes of the private laboratories is carried out by the Lower Saxony Recognition Office in administrative assistance for the recognition bodies in Germany.

Approval as a private laboratory requires that the designated manager and staff have the knowledge and skills necessary to carry out the quality test and that the laboratory has premises and equipment suitable for proper testing.

In addition to the application form, the following documents are required:

• Proof of the existence of the necessary knowledge among the staff to carry out the quality test
• List of the premises and equipment to be used to carry out the quality test

• Approval of a laboratory in accordance with the Seed Ordinance Basic fee: 2,900 €
• Examination of laboratory staff in addition to the fee per person: 575 €
• Supervision of an approved laboratory in accordance with the Seed Ordinance: €2,900 per year
• Additional quality test (control sample) according to the Seed Ordinance per sample: 2.30 €
• Recognition according to § 12 para. 1 b SaatV, per lot: € 36.75
• Testing according to § 16 para. 1 sentence 1 SaatV, per sample: 147 €
